In a non-linear system one observes what appears to be random motion
connected with turbulence. Looked at in an appropriate way this motion, though chaotic, appears to have regular, or stationary regions. These regions of chaotic motions are called attractors and since these attractions to various regions are unexpected these are called strange attractors.
