The Problem:
Cobalt(II) ion forms a stable colored complex with chloride ion that is blue. If the chloride ligands are replaced by water molecules around the Co(II), the complex with water becomes pink. This is used as an indicator for moisture, however, we will use this as an illustration of equilibrium and Le Chatlier's Principle. The following equation represents the equilibrium reaction with the cobalt (II) compounds.
