Gilbert Newton Lewis
1875-1946.
An American chemist at the University of California, Berkeley who revolutionized concepts of bonding. The Lewis octet rule is named after
him. He also generalized the concept of acids and bases and we now think
of Lewis acids and Lewis bases. He had a summer home in Marin County, Calif.
